The Reality

Many companies are slowed down by manual, repetitive work and outdated tools. Spreadsheets grow into systems they were never meant to be, processes rely on knowledge that only a few people know about, and small inefficiencies multiply into daily friction.

What often starts as a quick work-around to a problem, becomes business-critical, hard to change, and easy to break. Teams are often forced to spend their time fighting systems instead of using them which costs significant time, money and momentum...

Major competitive advantages can be gained with the right technical expertise. Without it, businesses miss the chance to be more efficient, and miss the chance to discover profitable new opportunities.

Typical Options

Off-the-shelf

Sometimes all you need is something that has already been built and is publicly available. Something you can just set-up and use. A basic inventory management system; a website with editable blogs, stock levels and available services; or a basic booking, sales or tracking system are classic examples.

Connected

If your company specialises in something more unique, specialist or niche, it's unlikely a single pre-built solution will do everything you need by itself. Sometimes, it is possible to connect a few separate off-the-shelf systems together though, to provide a cost-effective solution that meets most needs well.

Custom built

If your organisation is doing something unique, rare or ultra-specialist, you will unlikely gain much from doing it the same way as everyone else. In this case, you'll need a purpose-built solution. This requires deep understanding of the context it will operate in and close collaboration with the people who will use it.

Our Services

For Businesses

Consultation

The first step to solving any problem is getting a clear understanding of what the problem is - and isn't.

A consultation allows you to explain what your particular situation, constraints and goals are, so that we can outline your best options to address them. This may include understanding your stated, actual and implied needs; your staff's capability and availability; your approximate budget; and any relevant timelines.

Off-the-shelf assistance

If a pre existing, off-the-shelf option is best for you, we’ll give you a short list of suitable options and explain why they’re a good fit. If it’s something you can implement internally, we’ll say so, and be available if you ever need it.

If you want help with the setup, configuration, or rollout, we can either point you in the direction of people that can help or — if we're a good fit for each other - help you directly.

Connected products

Where no single tool fits, but a collection would be suitable, we’ll recommend a small set of compatible options that work together easily.

We'll then give you as much help as you need to get them installed, usable and connected, either by suggesting people to help you or — if we're a good fit — by helping you directly.

Bespoke builds

It may be that you genuinely need something bespoke. If that's the case we'll help you choose the most sensible delivery model: in-house, external, or a combination of both.

If working with us makes sense, we'll build what you need and leave you with something you can rely on — without needing us around to make it work. If we're not the best fit, perhaps due to technical, legal or specialist requirements, we'll aim to point you in a helpful direction.

Technical Partnership

For a solution that must adapt to constantly changing requirements, we can provide fractional CTO services or a broader long-term technical partnership.

This may include helping your organisation with technical designs, building part or all of it, assisting with technical recruitment, setting in-house standards, supporting delivery, providing technical oversight and/or working with your own internal team.

We'll scale our involvement up or down with your needs and once your comfortable things are running smoothly, step back to lightweight oversight or complete handover as needed.

Our Services

For Technology Teams

Guided Technical Retrospectives

All software engineering teams benefit when they regularly review how things are going and discuss ways to improve. Often though, these 'retrospectives' do not result in concrete steps that can actually be applied.

We facilitate structured, neutral retrospectives focused on delivery, quality, and technical decision-making. To help your team surface what actually happened vs. what was intended, why it happened that way, and what could be changed, scrapped or kept for next time with concrete, measurable proof to validate it.

As an external facilitator, we’re not part of your team's reporting line or internal politics. This allows us to ask useful, sometimes uncomfortable, questions, whilst keeping the discussion grounded and helpful. By the end they leave with a small number of concrete, actionable points they can use to improve the way they work and the products they build.

Independent/Paired Architecture Review

Sometimes what’s needed isn’t a redesign, but a second, experienced pair of eyes.

We provide independent reviews of existing or proposed architectures to identify unnecessary complexity, hidden risks, scalability concerns, and long-term maintenance issues. This can be early-stage validation, a pre-delivery sense check, or a response to growing pain that’s hard to pin down internally.

The outcome is a clear, written assessment of what looks sound, what deserves attention, and where small changes now can prevent much larger problems later — without forcing a rewrite or prescribing dogmatic solutions.

Developer Clinic

Not every problem needs a workshop or a steering committee. Sometimes developers just need space to talk through real issues with someone who’s been there before.

The developer clinic is a one-hour session — one-to-one or small group — where engineers can discuss specific technical problems, design doubts, trade-offs, or legacy constraints in a practical, low-pressure setting.

There’s no assessment, no performance angle, and no expectation of perfect answers. The aim is clarity, confidence, and forward movement — whether that’s confirming an approach, finding a simpler option, or understanding the cost of a compromise more clearly.

Forensic Code Analysis

Perhaps your business is considering buying software from a third party. Perhaps you already have software that seems fragile, slow to change, or behaves unpredictably.

We offer a focused forensic code analysis to understand tell you how well things are structured, where risk is concentrated, and where changes might be disproportionately expensive or dangerous. This may include reviewing architecture, dependencies, patterns of change, and ownership boundaries, among other things like general code quality and determining how fit for purpose it is overall.

The result is a clear, factual picture of what you’re dealing with — not just what’s “bad”, but what’s reliable, what’s worth keeping, and where effort will have the most impact if you want to make changes.

How we work

Focused on quality, communication and results. You'll work directly with experienced experts who can communicate technical detail in an easy-to-understand way. This helps ensure you get something useful faster. A good example of our approach is:

  1. 1
    Assess
From a simple conversation, to a forensic analyses of your existing processes and anything in-between.
  2. 2
    Report
Once we understand your needs, we'll give you our recommendations on how to accomplish them.
  3. 3
    Build
We can recommend suppliers, oversee implementation or do the work with you directly depending on what's right for you.
  4. 4
    Measure
We'll measure adoption, performance, and reliability and suggest changes based on uptake, feedback and results.
  5. 5
    Handover
We'll ensure you're in the position to use, grow and maintain whichever system you decide to adopt accordingly.
We Value...
  • Clear communication
  • Durable, quality focused solutions
  • Rapid delivery of useful features
  • Systems that grow with your needs
  • Bug-free, well-designed user experiences
  • Privacy and the respect of our clients
